SSC CGL 2017 | Online Application, Vacancies, Eligibility and Exam Pattern

SSC CGL 2017


SSC CGL 2017 is a reputed entrance examination conducted by SSC in India. SSC CGL is given by more than 10 lakh students in order to fill near about 40,000 vacancies. Combined graduate examination 2017 notification can be downloaded from the official website. You need to apply online for the application process this year. Previously both offline and online way of an application was available but in order to prevent fraud, Staff Selection Commission has gone digital to support Digital India campaign. It is expected to receive more than 15 lakh online application for SSC CGL 2017 exam this year since the campaign has provided internet connectivity in villages and small towns in India.

Eligibility Criteria for the Examination:

In order to apply for the examination, the aspirants must full fill the eligibility criteria described by the authorities. The notification has the complete information for the eligibility of the CGL. Although much of the criteria's remain same for the paper, a few minor changes may be expected by the commission this year. 

1. Nationality:

A candidate must be either:
  • a citizen of India, or
  • a subject of Nepal, or
  • a subject of Bhutan, or
  • a Tibetan refugee who came over to India, before the Ist January 1962 with the
  • intention of permanently settling in India, or
  • a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka,
  • East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (
  • Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar ), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and
  • Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

2. Age Limit: 

A candidate should be 18 years of age as on 01.08.2017 in order to apply SSC Online. The maximum age an applicant can be 32 years. 

Relaxation for minority groups:
  • Scheduled caste/Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST): 5 years
  • Other Backward Caste: 3 years
  • Physically Handicapped: 10 years
  • PH + OBC: 13 years
  • PH + SC/ST: 15 years
  • Ex-Servicemen (SC & ST): 08years(3 years + 5 years)
In order to get relaxation, the candidate must show his caste certificate during the interview otherwise, his candidacy will be canceled by the commission. The certificate should be produced in the prescribed format as per the Central Government in the annexure.

3. Academic Qualification:

(i) Assistant Audit Officer

(a) Essential Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University or Institute.

(b) Desirable Qualifications: Chartered Accountant or cost & Management Accountant or Company Secretary or Masters in Commerce or Masters in Business Studies or Masters in Business Administration (Finance) or Masters in Business Economics.

(ii) Statistical Investigator Grade – II

Bachelor’s Degree in any subject from a recognized University or Institute with at least 60% in
Mathematics at the 12th standard level or Bachelor’s Degree in any subject with Statistics as one of the subjects at degree level.

(iii) Compiler
Bachelor’s Degree from any recognized University with Economics or Statistics or Mathematics as a compulsory or Elective subject.

(iv) All other Posts
Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University or equivalent.

Scheme of the Examination for Combined Graduate Level Examination:

SSC CGL 2017 exam will be conducted online in three-tiers on different days. You need to download the admit card from the regional site.The scheme of examination is indicated below:

  • Tier -I- Examination (Objective Multiple Choice Type)
  • Tier -II- Examination (Objective Multiple Choice Type)
  • Tier -III- Computer Proficiency Test/ Skill Test (wherever applicable)/ Document Verification.


Tier-3 is applicable for specific posts which have some additional qualifications. There can be a personal interview or a computer proficiency skill test of the candidate for that post. The candidates who are applying for general posts need not give a personal interview. 

SSC CGL 2017 Vacancies:

The employment commission has indicated a rise in the number of vacancies in different ministries of the Indian government. One can expect a 40% increase in the expected vacancies for SSC CGL 2017. This will be around 55,000 vacancies this year due to a surgical strike on the black money by the honorable prime minister of India. The commission has submitted a report of current employees working as the tax assistants in the departments to PMO.

Pay Scale and Classification of Posts

1. Group B: A Central Civil post carrying the grade pay Rs.5400, Rs.4800, Rs.4600 and Rs.4200 in the scale of pay of Rs 9300 – 34800 in the Pay Band-2.

2. Group C: A Central Civil post carrying the grade pay Rs.2800, Rs.2400, Rs.2000, Rs.1900 and Rs.1800 in the scale of pay of Rs.5200-20200 in the Pay Band-1.

Preparation for SSC CGL 2017:

If you are going to sit in the exam for the first time, then a thorough preparation is required.


A candidate must start his preparation 6 months before the actual examination. Gather the essential books and study material online or offline to kick start the preparation. The main focus should on practicing rather than just cramming. Prepare a study schedule and follow the time table religiously. Always keep an eye on the report card of the practice tests. Try not to repeat the same mistakes in the actual examination as you did in the practice tests.Make a book of mistakes which will help to avoid them and try to focus on weaker sections to improve more quickly.


The motivation for the Exam:

It may be possible that you might be a repeater for the exam and need the motivation to clear the exam. A right attitude and healthy way for preparation will eventually help you to clear this tough exam with flying colors. Try to focus on your own success rather than wondering about your friend's destiny and stardom. Always remember, the success parameters for you and your friend can be entirely different from each other. Think of your accomplishments in the past and prepare for your future with full passion and zeal. 

Summary:

SSC CGL 2017 is among the toughest entrance examination in the country. In order to fix a seat in the Indian ministries, one must fill the online application and follow the process carefully.
